Gili Trawangan is the largest Gili in north Lombok NTB and the only one that rises significantly (30 m) above sea level. Gili Trawangan has a length of 3km and width 2km and has a population of about 1500 inhabitants. The name Trawangan is derived from the Indonesian Tunnel (Tunnel) because of the cave tunnel built there during the Japanese occupation of World War 2. Trawangan is the most developed and geared for tourism. The main concentration of residential, recreational, accommodation, and diving businesses is located on the eastern side of the island.
In Gili Trawangan there are no vehicles or cars. Gili Trawangan main transportation is bikes hired by locals for tourists and cidomo (small horse cart). To travel to each of Gili, locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats.
Some of the first inhabitants of Gili Trawangan are fishermen and farmers from Sulawesi. Previous human settlements Gili Trawangan covered forest and deer live on the island. (according to Gili Trawangan residents.
Gili Trawangan's economy is centered on tourism, because the island is too small to support large-scale agriculture, and too far to allow economically viable industries or trade.
Gili Trawangan has had a reputation since the 1980s as a location where medicines are freely available. Psilocybin mushrooms are openly advertised on the island, and various hard drugs have been known to circulate. Despite the low police presence, Indonesia's drug laws are very harsh and explicitly say that drug use and use is prohibited and carries a potentially huge risk (up to and including death penalty). Although 'medicinal tourism' (and tourism in general) started in Gili Trawangan, in the last 10 years finding drugs in Gili Air and Gili Meno has become very open and easy as well. Especially in Gili Air that has a more intense psychedelic sold openly to tourists for beach parties.
Gili Trawangan is also the only island of 3 Gili which has the most crowded Visitors.

Facilities in the dyke is very adequate from the mosque, restaurant, minimarket, hotel, villa, Home stay, nightclub cafe.

Gili Meno is a gili located in the middle of the three Gili coast northwest of Lombok. Gili Meno has a population of about 500 people, mainly concentrated in the center of the island, The main income comes from tourism, coconut plantation and fisheries. On the west side of the island there is a small shallow lake that produces salt in the dry season. Until a few years ago there was also a small seaweed production on the reef at the northern tip of the island. Gili Meno has beaches swimming around the island, and a turtle shelter.
The island attracts fewer tourists than Gili Trawangan and is the quietest and smallest island. However, honeymooners are often attracted to crystal clear water and beautiful white beaches and secluded.
Since early 2017 fresh water is installed on the island and supplied by underwater pipeline from Lombok. Electricity is supplied by submarine cable from Lombok. There are no cars or motorbikes on the island.

Gili Air is the smallest island of 3 gili, and closest to the mainland of Lombok, making it popular with honeymoon couples and travelers seeking a quiet retreat. It has a population of about 1,800. The island offers excellent snorkeling and scuba diving off its east coast, and turtles can be seen along the coral reefs. Other water sports such as Stand Up Paddleboarding and Kitesurfing are also now available. Many of the traditional sail boat departures from Gilis to Komodo or anywhere in Indonesia can be arranged by the Pirates' Bay Cruising office. A cooking school in Indonesia has opened its doors at the harbor in Gili 2015 Cooking Class. Gili Air also has a gym.
Sustainable investment in tourism results in rapid island development, and annually sees new resorts and accommodation on the islands while trying to retain their respective characters. The distance to Gili Meno, the smallest islands and estranged from the islands and to Gili Trawangan the largest island, known for its many restaurants and parties, makes Gili Air an attractive destination that combines a relative seclusion with adequate service. The other two islands can be reached by speed boat.
There is also no active police in Gili Air (only in Gili Trawangan) so the problem with these drug users should be handled by the police from Lombok and only if reported.
